Classroom Furniture

The only choice when trying to appropriately equip a classroom is specially designed classroom furniture. Regardless if you’re looking for desks, chairs, tables, classroom dividers, or portable sinks, you must first ensure that the furniture is built to address the specific demands of a classroom. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing the right classroom furniture, such as: What type of class room will this class room furniture be used in? How many students will be using this classroom furniture? How old are the students who will be using this classroom furniture? Once you’ve determined the answers to these questions, you will be better prepared to find the perfect classroom furniture for your classroom.

School Furniture

There is a lot of that goes into furniture suitably stocking a school, regardless if it’s a preschool, an elementary school, a middle school, a high school or even a college or university. Desks, chairs, cafeteria tables, gym equipment, benches, lockers, art class supplies and portable sinks are all examples of school furniture. There are countless applications for school furniture at any given school, and there are some examples of school furniture that have multiple uses. For instance, the same orange cones used in the gym for P.E. class can also be used in the parking lot to direct traffic. Some school furniture can be used for students of all ages wile other school furniture is age specific. For example, standard sized desks can be used by students from about 3rd grade to college. However, preschool furniture is too small for older students can only be used for younger, preschool and kindergarten aged students.

Cafeteria Furniture

Each weekday, school cafeterias across the globe have roughly 90 minutes to feed up to 6 thousand students per school. These 90 minutes are typically divided over three groups, with each group allocated about a half hour a day to buy and eat their lunch. Due to this fact, the cafeteria furniture needs to be conducive to the lack of available time. Cafeteria furniture needs to be built for stability with remaining comfortable to sit on and easy to clean. Also, since school cafeterias can be used for multiple purposes during a school week, it is also very important that cafeteria furniture be easy to store and relocate. Once the meals are finished, a well equipped cafeteria will also have plenty of waste receptacles to collect the pounds of trash create daily by the thousands of students at each school.

Preschool Classroom Furniture

Preschool classroom furniture has some of the most specific requirements of any classroom furniture on the market today. Not only does preschool classroom furniture have to be small enough for 4-year-olds to safely use, but it also has some very specific purposes to serve. There are very few differences between lesson plans regardless where the preschool class is held. Every preschool class must prepare the students for kindergarten and grade school and there is some very useful preschool classroom furniture to help do so. Safety is the key when it comes to preschool classroom furniture. There are child-safe games and toys available, such as play-and-learn sets and building blocks made from soft material. There are also chairs, tables, and benches available that are the perfect size for a preschool classroom.

Classroom Display Cases

Classroom display cases come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. The variety of uses makes classroom display cases the ideal addition to any school or classroom for years to come. They are great for displaying trophies, awards, class projects, visual aids, books and much more. Depending on how the display case is used will help determine the proper specifications. For example, if the display case is going to contain valuables, it should include a lock. However, if access to the display case is a priority, then a lock might not be necessary. Another form of display case that is found in a classroom is bookshelves. Bookshelves allow ample storage space for the, usually thin, books that are designed for children while allowing the students to easily see the cover so they may find the book their looking for. Storage shelves and display cases teach students the importance of cleanliness and keeping their items in a manageable order.

Science Lab Classroom Furniture

Some of the most hands on leaning at a school is done in the science lab. Based on that, it is no surprise that science lab classroom furniture is an extremely vital part of the classroom experience with every piece of furniture inside a school science lab having its own very specific use. There is furniture that will help to conduct an experiment, like lab stools and pour funnels. There is science lab furniture that is built for storage, like mobile utility carts and large storage lockers. There is also science lab furniture intended to keep the students safe, such as portable sinks, hazardous material containers, and science lab tables with chemical resistant black tops. Learning and safety go hand and hand inside a science lab classroom; in fact, “How to Stay Safe in a Science Lab” is the first lesion taught in all science classes.

Art Classroom Furniture

The art classroom is where students are given the opportunity to be as creative as they want. It’s one of the only classrooms at a school where getting messy is almost encouraged. Because of this fact, the furniture found in an art classroom needs to be easy to clean while remaining conducive to a creative environment. Furniture such as easels, art benches, cubbies, cabinets, and tray stations are prefect for creating art or for storing art supplies. There is also the need to clean supplies in an art classroom, so portable sinks are usually a requirement to easily wash hands and art supplies all in one place. This is done to keep the messy creativity inside the art classroom instead of tracked throughout the rest of the school.

Computer Classroom Furniture

Computer class has become one of the most important classes in school today. Most students can’t graduate without completing a computer competency class at every school level from elementary to university. Because of this, it is important that every school be equipped with the right computer classroom furniture to create the ideal environment for computer learning. Besides having enough computers for an entire class to use, there is a plethora of supplies that can help a computer classroom run smoothly. An overhead projector can project what is on the instructor’s computer so the class can have an example of how to carry out tasks. An AV cart can hold the instructor’s computer or laptop to make teaching easier. Also, most computer classrooms are set up like computer labs, therefore classroom chairs also very beneficial for computer classrooms.

Classroom Dividers and Partitions

In a classroom environment, it is sometimes necessary to split the students into smaller groups in order to provide a more personal learning experience. Because of this, it can be difficult for the teacher and student both to concentrate when there is more than one lesion or activity taking place at a time. That’s where classroom dividers and partitions come in. The portable, yet free-standing, partition systems are the ideal solution to a busy classroom. They are great for both short and long-term use; so regardless why the classroom needs to be divided the perfect equipment is still in place. The rolling partitions are available in a variety of heights and sizes in order to perfectly fit into any classroom or application.

Classroom Tables

There is so much simultaneously going on at every school on a day to day basis. In a single building, all at one time, there may be students quietly studying in the library, students mixing chemicals in a science lab, students painting in art class, and students learning how to work a computer in the computer lab. Because of the diversity of activities that go on at a school at once, having the same type of furniture in every classroom is not ideal. And because no type of classroom furniture is more task specific than classroom tables, they should get a lot of attention when trying to find the right one. There is essentially a different type of table used in every classroom in a school. There are library tables that are wide and spacious. There are science tables with a chemical resistant black top. There are also art benches and computer cabinets that are the ideal tables for creating art or working on a computer.

Classroom Desks

The one thing that nearly every student in the world needs in order to lean is a desk. Without a desk, students don’t have a surface to write on. Without a surface to write on, they can’t do their assignments. If they can’t do their assignments, they can’t learn. Since the desk is so important for every student from elementary school to college, it is equally important to ensure the proper desk is being used. There are desks with attached chairs, desks with cubbies, desks with baskets, and desks with movable writing surfaces. There are smaller classroom desks for younger students, and larger classroom desks for older students. There are also table arm and book rack attachments available that can transform a standard chair into a fully functional desk.

Classroom Chairs

In addition to desks, most classrooms are filled with a number of chairs and stools that can be used sporadically throughout the school year or on a day to day basis. In standard classroom they can be used for group project and presentations but the true benefit of classroom chairs is for the younger students. Sometimes younger students aren’t big enough to sit at standard sized desks—the chair sits too far back from the desk and they can’t reach their work. The answer to this dilemma is classroom chairs. Younger students have a much easer time reaching their desk when they can move their chair closer to it. Similarly, some older students are too big to fit into an attached desk, so it would be helpful for them to be able to push their chair further back.

Classroom Supplies

Not having the proper classroom supplies can really hinder a student’s learning experience. Since all students across the country are being judged on the same grading scale, they should all be provided with the same supplies. These supplies include adequate tables, chairs, and desks; fully equipped science labs, computer labs, and art classrooms; and properly organized classrooms with easy access to supplies. All students deserve a proper education, and teachers deserve the right tools to facilitate this education. They deserve lecterns, podiums, and overhead projectors; they deserve proper desks, tables, and supportive chairs; they also deserve the appropriate shelves, cubbies, and cabinets to keep their classrooms clean and organized. If every student and teacher is given equal supplies, the ideal learning environment will be found everywhere, in every grade level, at every school, for every student.
